The Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012

13.03.2012

The Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 SR 2012 No 59

The DOE has made the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 which come into operation on 13th March 2012.

The Regulations amend and consolidate the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999.

The Regulations apply the EIA Directive (Directive 85/337/EEC, as amended), to the planning process in Northern Ireland. The EIA Directive requires an assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment before development consent is granted. The Regulations take account of the latest case law and amendment to the EIA Directive and introduce revised procedures, including changes to the public inquiry publicity arrangements which are designed to speed up the inquiry process.
